Maureen Hiles BSc (Hons) SPOHN RN RM
I trained as a registered nurse in 1972 at Oldchurch Hospital , Romford, Essex .
I worked as a staff nurse on various wards for one year and then went on to train as a midwife and qualified as a midwife in 1974.
In 1975 I returned to Oldchurch Hospital and later that year became a Ward Sister on a Medical/Coronary Care Ward, where I stayed until 1977.
During my years there I felt staff were unevenly distributed and students were not always getting the best training in some areas due to staff shortage. This prompted me to enter the School of Nursing to help resolve these problems.
I became a Nursing Officer and stayed in that post until a career sabatical in 1981 to raise a family.
On returning to work in 1990, my first job was for a car factory, where I became interested in Occupational Health (OH).
I went on to gain experience in Occupational Health in various working enviroments, including a Bakery, Soap and Detergent manufacturering and eventually back to an Occupational Health role, within the NHS. Through these experiences, I found myself increasingly interested in prevention of ill health at work, leading me to study for a degree in Occupational Heath Nursing at South Bank University. Since 2004, I have been a qualified OH adviser (specialist practitioner) and have over a decade of experience in industrail and corporate environments as well as the NHS since 1990.
My most recent experience is in an idustrial enviroment, working for an Oil Refining Company as the Lead OH Advisor.
Sian Chapman BA BSc (Hons) SPOHN RGN
I began nurse training in 1985, after completing an English degree at Nottingham University. I trained as a Registered Nurse at Hammersmith Hospital in London , gaining a Distinction.
After qualifying as a Nurse I then gained experience working in specialities such as Coronary and High Dependency surgical wards as well as considerable experience working in general medical and surgical wards, both in the private sector and within the NHS.
Having worked in the NHS for over 14 years, a change of direction found me working in the construction industry as a Site Medic nine years ago.
It was here that I developed an interest in Occupational Health. I studied for a degree in Occupational Heath Nursing at South Bank University. I have been a qualified OH adviser (specialist practitioner), since 2004, and have a great deal of experience in industrial, corporate and Ministry of Defence environments.
Some time after gaining my Occupational Health (OH) degree, I left Ministry of Defence to work for a TV Channel, and then on to become Senior OH adviser for Kent Count Council. My most recent position has been, as the Occupational Health adviser at the Port of Tilbury London Ltd. in Essex .
